Wedding at Paradise Gardens (I love succulents!)

This is a wedding I 2nd shot last year at the lovely Paradise Gardens. What really stood out to me was the creative use of succulents in the florals… they were done by the talented team at Cherry Blossom. I absolutely love this look, and combined with the bride’s gorgeous vintage style dress, perfection!!

Heidi’s belly session

Talk about a glowing mama to be! Heidi and Nick were both absolutely glowing for their belly session at the beach. They are so sweet together, they seriously made me swoon! They are excitedly anticipating the birth of their first child coming very soon. Heidi is the sister of my good friend Christina, who ended up gifting her the session for the baby shower. I love that idea!

Started out with some solos of Heidi…

February 4, 2010 - 1:54 pm Chelsea - your stop motion video is so cool! great idea!

February 4, 2010 - 1:59 pm Jaclyn - Rather than write about ourselves we decided to write about each other... Why I fell in love with Jaclyn... She's got whatever it is. It blows me away.... She can make my day better by just a smile. She inspires me to be a better man and makes me excited about life. She is outgoing and the life of the party...just like me. It's true that opposites attract. Though we find ourselves agreeing on practically everything. Not much compromise with this couple! I love making her laugh and will go out of my way (and climb walls) to do so...because when she's smiling, I'm smiling. She leaves me countless love notes to find while I'm a thousand miles away. It's not hard to feel her love from a distance. She's compassionate and strong, loving and thoughtful.....and she makes amazing rice krispy treats. She is amazing in every way. She's my best friend and I can't imagine my life without her in it. -Aaron Reasons why I fell in love with Aaron... He is without a doubt the nicest man I have ever met. He knows how to treat a woman, his mother raised him right. He opens doors, takes out the trash and speaks kindly. He listens... silently before he speaks... and then he listens more. He makes me laugh... one day you should ask me about his Spiderman wall climbing capabilities that sparked pee in your pants type laughter... He dreams with me... he makes plans with me and he cares about our future. He takes care of me when I am sick, when I need a hug or just when I need to sit in silence. He can be thousands of miles away from me and I never doubt or feel his love any less. He is a wonderful friend, to me, his band, his friends and his family. He has immense compassion for others and is always willing to help others. He inspires me.... to love deeper, to laugh a little harder and to dream bigger... He loves me truly, madly and deeply... and I know he will love me that way forever. And that is just the beginning of why I love this man. Jaclyn

February 4, 2010 - 4:14 pm Laura Christin - SOOOO COOL! :)

February 5, 2010 - 8:55 am Georgiana - LOVE THE VIDEO! Soo fun to watch. Thank you for sharing.

February 5, 2010 - 10:15 pm Leilani - Gabby, I love the video, that is so cool. I am so impressed by your creativity, how long did it take to do that?

February 6, 2010 - 2:51 pm Nicole Glenn - I. Love. This. Video. So awesome Gabby! I vote for Jaclyn and Aaron. :)

February 8, 2010 - 1:08 pm Courtney - I wish I had something warm and fuzzy to say, but basically, my wedding pictures sucked/were the worst thinge ever, the photographer skipped town without returning all that was promised in our package, and my husband and I have very few good pictures of us together! Now that I am a wedding planner, I am consistently wowed by all you wonderfully talented photographers :) I have also passed this lovely contest onto my current and former brides :)

February 10, 2010 - 12:15 am home insurance in San Diego - Great video and nice website! You're really amazing at photography!

February 11, 2010 - 2:06 pm Adriana - I think Courtney should get it! All happy couples should have pictures that they are excited to showoff and display!

February 11, 2010 - 4:53 pm Ashley B Bamburg - Hi, My name is Ashley and this coming June I get to marry my soul mate, Seth. Well, what can I say? He's awesome. He's an animator, an artist and a musician, basically one of the most unique and inspiring people I have ever met. We work together so well that it's hard to picture my life without him. I'm an artist too, and when we work together the creative juices overflow ;) Unfortunately, we have decided not to hire a photographer for the wedding due to the expense (we're on a tight budget). And since we're getting married in Michigan a lot of our friends won't be able to attend. Please consider us for the contest because I would love to have a portrait of the two of us in our wedding finery as a keepsake to show to our friends and family, and to one day prove to our children that we were young and hot once haha. Sincerely, Ashley Bamburg

February 12, 2010 - 3:02 am Alma - Well, how do I begin to describe the profound love and respect that I have for my husband and best friend, Allan? He is truly the reason why I can run a business, work full time, and be in school for my masters. He is absolutely my rock, and definitely my biggest cheerleader. What can I say, I love him! Anyway, I couldn't pass up an opportunity to show my support for you Gabby, which is the reason why I am posting something on here :-) I sing your praises to anyone looking for a photographer--you are awesome! Thanks for always being so fantastic to work with. Hope we get to work together again soon!

February 12, 2010 - 5:48 pm Debbie - Hi Gabrielle! My name is Debbie and you actually know my husband, Jim Chialtas. I saw your Tweet today and I would LOVE to be chosen for a sweetheart session! Jim and I have been together for over 18 years and married for 10. We have 2 wonderful kids. Being a young family, we are so busy and rarely take the time to ask someone to take a picture of us together. The last picture I have of us is the day I was going to the hospital to have our daughter, and that was over 2 years ago! But the most important reason I would love a professional photo of us is because having a family has both challenged us as a couple and strengthened our partnership. We are different than we were before having children and I would love to capture that now. We're older, wiser, and stronger. And of course Jim is getting more handsome every day and I've got to have that on film! :) Not only would it be great for us to have, but also great for our children, who probably won't remember us at this age. They'll get to see how cool their parents have always been! Thanks so much for this opportunity and have a wonderful Valentine's Day! -Debbie Chialtas

February 14, 2010 - 2:15 am Tom Cruz - My name is Thomas Cruz, madly in love with my best friend, Michaelann Cervantes. To truly understand our relationship it is important to first understand our friendship. We "met" during our freshman year of college. I, a shy teenage boy without a single clue of how to talk to girls, noticed her instantly in my Yoga class. I tried to arrive early every class and "coincidentally" be next to where she tended to sit. Not knowing how to initiate conversation with her and desperately wanting to, I resorted to the only way I ever knew, the way I learned in kindergarten. While she, in a yoga pose perpendicular to the ground and supported by only one hand and one foot, I shoved her arm out from under her causing her to collapse onto the floor. Luckily for me, she happened to have a great sense of humor and thought what happened was hilarious, wondering who I was and why we weren't already friends. From that day on for the next 5 years we became the closest and best friends. Four years ago, after growing to love her so much I thought I would burst, I became the luckiest person in the world when I finally got to be with not only the one love of my life, but also, with my best friend. Every day is a celebration of being in love with that special person that makes your life amazing. Her, a comedian, and I, an artist support each other in all aspects of each others' lives and continue to be best friends. We are both loved by each others' families and friends, and look forward to a happy, long life together.

February 15, 2010 - 1:05 pm Gabrielle - Thank to everyone for sharing your sweet love stories! We have chosen a winner... and it's Ashley!

February 16, 2010 - 3:07 pm Ashley B Bamburg - Thanks so much for choosing me, Gabrielle! I can't wait!!

Indigo. 4 months

I’ve been taking my Auntie duties very seriously and have been spending a lot of time with Indi lately. New parents need a break, yo! I love my time with her. I also love being able to give her back after a few hours of fun… I am so exhausted after such a short amount of time, seriously I don’t know how you moms do it!

But it is awesome to be around to watch her change & grow. She’s getting way more smiley these days. Her eyes are changing color. And she makes little sounds, oh that soft coo that just melts my heart! Here’s a photo taken earlier today… she’s wearing a cute little hoodie I got for her  ♥

Indigo fave

I love photos like this…

black and white beauty

Don’t get me wrong, I’m all about a fun quirky creative portrait or something that could have come straight off a magazine cover; it’s all in good fun! I do like to follow the industry trends and try out new ideas. And many of the photographers that I really admire have a very funky and unique style.

But my absolute favorite photos are photos like these. Photos that have soul. A moment that says something about the couple, where there lies a timeless beauty. I’m in this business to make art but mostly to tell a story and record moments in my client’s lives. I know it sounds totally cliche, but this is the true reason why I value my job. It’s such a honorable service I get to give. As I am finishing the final edit of Britany & Erik’s wedding photos, I fell head over heels in love with this picture and had to share.

me and my dawg

It was fun being on the other side of the camera for once! My lovely friend Laura took some portraits of me & Rocky for my 2009 holiday card. Laura is an awesome friend, confidant and caring soul. She works with me on the heart gallery project helping foster kids find real homes. And of course, she’s a fabulous photographer! Check out the results:

Brit & Erik | Ocean View Villas

Old hollywood glamour meets the beach? yes please! Twas the inspiration for Brit & Erik’s winter wedding at the Ocean View Villas and my last wedding of the year!

Brit & Erik met in Utah, currently live in Virginia and married here, destination San Diego! They had friends and family come from all over to join them in celebration. And we totally lucked out with a beautiful December day! The event was designed by the fantastic Brenda from Swann Soirees, florals by Paula Rae and music by the talented Michael Tiernan.

Home for the holidays

Welcome 2010! And to my very 1st blog post of the new year! Before 2009 quickly slips away, I wanted to wrap it up by sharing some images I took while home for the holidays.

The place I call home is Bolinas, CA… it’s about an hour north of San Francisco on the coast. Bolinas is a self-proclaimed “socially acknowledged nature loving town” and it is. The nature is insanely beautiful (I think I appreciate it now more than ever) and the residents are environmentally conscious & community oriented. It always keeps it’s small town feel and it’s a nice place to come home to. I am inspired in Bolinas; where the rolling hills meet the ocean, lagoon wildlife, the brightly colored produce from the local organic farms. On this trip I tried to capture some of what I love about my town, (work in progress)… I hope you enjoy it!
