happy news :)

Always a wedding photographer, never a … wait a minute, the time has finally come when it’s my turn to be the bride! He popped the question and now I find myself on the other end of this wonderful wedding world wondering what to do next! SO many decisions, I can now really relate to what brides go through!

We have been together for 6 years and grow closer with every day together. Ryan is a very sweet down-to-earth loving guy and I very much look forward to this new chapter with him. We are total goofballs together as you can see. I absolutely adore that he makes me laugh often…

engagementI’m sure I will be updating my blog as we go through the planning process. I’m thinking simple, relaxed and focused on what’s most important… and at the same time totally us

Costa Rica, a year ago…

Last year at this time we were just returning home from a trip to Costa Rica. I finally realized that I never shared any photos from this trip, silly me!

Now Costa holds a special place in the hearts of Ryan & I, we have traveled there twice together and absolutely love the country, people and amazing nature and wild animals. When we get married we are thinking about having our wedding there. Yay, destination wedding!

The 1st time we went, we traveled all around the country and saw lots, but this time we knew exactly where we wanted to go. We made a bee-line to the Carribean coast, ready to spend 2 weeks either on the beach, in a hammock or riding our bikes through the rainforest. My parents own land in a town called Puerto Viejo, which is on the border near Panama. So off we went on our 6 hour bus ride to paradise!

me and my dawg

It was fun being on the other side of the camera for once! My lovely friend Laura took some portraits of me & Rocky for my 2009 holiday card. Laura is an awesome friend, confidant and caring soul. She works with me on the heart gallery project helping foster kids find real homes. And of course, she’s a fabulous photographer! Check out the results:

Home for the holidays

Welcome 2010! And to my very 1st blog post of the new year! Before 2009 quickly slips away, I wanted to wrap it up by sharing some images I took while home for the holidays.

The place I call home is Bolinas, CA… it’s about an hour north of San Francisco on the coast. Bolinas is a self-proclaimed “socially acknowledged nature loving town” and it is. The nature is insanely beautiful (I think I appreciate it now more than ever) and the residents are environmentally conscious & community oriented. It always keeps it’s small town feel and it’s a nice place to come home to. I am inspired in Bolinas; where the rolling hills meet the ocean, lagoon wildlife, the brightly colored produce from the local organic farms. On this trip I tried to capture some of what I love about my town, (work in progress)… I hope you enjoy it!

A girl and her horse

As we drove through the winding mountain road I felt the city falling away and a sense of peace coming over me. I looked at my companion Meredith and said “This is exactly what I needed”. To get away, even just for a minute. To unplug from this crazy cyber-dominated fast paced at your fingertips world. Where we were going didn’t even have cell service!

Now I have always loved horses. I love their warmth, their eyes, their slobbering mouths and yes, their smell. Something about how strong they are and yet so sensitive at the same time. I haven’t been around horses in years and I have been thoroughly enjoying my time with Meredith and her horses, Ginger & Salty. Here are a few pics we took with Ginger…

Thanks + giving

The other night while driving past a church in my neighborhood I caught a glimpse of the sign out front that read “Count Your Blessings“. Now that’s a phrase I have heard countless times but never have really stopped to consider its true meaning. What does it mean to count my blessings? Do I practice it? Do I recognize the miracles in my life and express gratitude for them? Or do I go around always feeling sorry for myself and my circumstances, comparing myself to so-and-so down the street? Well I have to admit I have done both in the past, but I’m working on choosing the latter and opening more & more to the amazing graces that bless me each day.

So I thought that for Thanksgiving I will take this opportunity to share a few things I am grateful for… and I invite you to do the same!

Love. I am blown away by the people in my life, people that love me unconditionally, people with whom I have let my guard completely down… I don’t have to be anybody, I can just be me. I am so fortunate to feel deeply connected to the people in my life and I celebrate them! I admire their honesty, courage and selfless love.

This job! I am among the lucky ones who can say that they truly love what they do. It’s simply awesome that I can make a living doing photography. I love getting to tell people’s stories and at the same time make new friends & share new experiences all along the way. My job is inspiring and exciting and I treasure that.

God, because without nothing would be possible. I am thankful that God knows my heart and continues to answer my prayers. There is such a great amount of love for us, we just have to open to it.

I could name many more but for the sake of blog space I will keep it short and sweet. I believe in the creative power of one’s thoughts, whether it be positive or negative, so it’s important to be conscious of what we are putting out there. If we are humbly recognizing all that is good in our lives we will be rewarded with more and more abundance. So remember to give thanks not just today, but everyday.

The Getty

Sometimes as an artist you gotta recharge your batteries… for me, especially around this time of the season, when I’m usually on the verge of a massive creative burn-out. I recently read an article in Rangefinder magazine that spoke about the artist’s process. It said “Life is pretty simple. You do some stuff. Most fails. Some works. You do more of what works. If it works big, others quickly copy it. Then you do something else. The trick is the doing ’something else’. It reminded me that sometimes you just gotta get out there and see what happens. You cannot analyze whether or not the final product will be any good, you just have to create.

So to remedy, my friend Nikki and I headed out to The Getty museum in the city of angels. I had never visited before and was super excited to explore the beautiful grounds and get my culture on! Also a photographer that I admire, Irving Penn, had an exhibition on display. Here are some photos from our inspirational field trip!
