Olivenhain, Encinitas family portraits

I had to blog this family session because the Hughes fam is one of my absolute favorite long time clients! We always have fun shooting their family photos and this year was no different. I love that they chose a more formal look, but in a relaxed setting. Totally their style!

Check out the highlights from our photoshoot...

It was also Ben's 5th birthday... so we had to do a formal portrait. Because every 5 year old need a photo in a tux! ;)

Maui vacation!

I wanted the 1st post of 2017 to be a personal one.

I like to check in every once in awhile... especially when it's to share travel photos! In January we were able to take a family vacation to the beautiful Hawaiian island of Maui. Our son Reed is now 5 and we were so excited for him to fully experience the warm blue waters, sand, sun and whales, so many whales! The aloha spirit was high and great memories were made...

Donez wedding | Dos Picos Park, Ramona

Ok, a little backstory... While studying photography in college I enrolled in the mandatory "History of Photography" course. Well it was scheduled late in the afternoon and some days was the most boring hour of my day... that was, until I met the Donez twins.

They sat in the back, cracked jokes, were kinda silly, interesting and hilarious... plus they were identical twins, there were 2 of them. I knew we had to be friends! And friends we became, a friendship that has lasted over a decade. They are honestly two of the sweetest guys I have ever known.

Flash forward 13 years, and Anthony has found his perfect match, Angella.

A + A compliment each other so well. They are creative, adventurous, open-hearted and so down to earth. I was most honored to be chosen to document their wedding day. The emotions of the day flowed freely... it was hard not to tear up when Anthony first saw his beautiful bride or when best man/twin Christopher delivered his touching speech. If we weren't family before, we definitely are now. Sharing these moments are what I love about photographing weddings. LOVE you guys!

San Diego military homecoming

It's Memorial Day and a great chance to acknowledge those that fight for our country and all of the sacrifices they make. Last year I was honored to photograph a Navy homecoming of the aircraft carrier USS Carl Vinson for another photography studio, Studio 512

These two have quite a story!! Shortly after getting married and moving to a new town, Mikaela's husband was deployed for a long 9 months on the USS Carl Vinson. The newlyweds were reunited in June of last year... and to say it was emotional is an understatement. Check out the story below. Documenting events like this in people's lives is what inspires me and gives new life & meaning to my work.

And thank you to all of those who serve in the military. Happy Memorial Day!!

San Diego welcomes the USS Carl Vinson home.

The anticipation was absolutely palpable as we waited for the sailors to disembark.

"Omg I can see him"

New dads are let off the ship 1st to meet their babies for the first time. It was hard not to choke up witnessing such touching reunions!

This moment was like a scene from a movie. We hear him yell "Mikaela" and runs through the crowd. Picks her up in an embrace and swings her around while everyone stops to watch.

Together at last!

"Let's go home"

A few quick portraits before they headed to their hotel to celebrate!
